What is Solid State Drive ? Interfaces of SSD's

Welcome Friends, previous 'What is Flash Memory ? Flash Memory Devices' post mein Maine sabhe flash memory ko describe kiya tha jaise - what is solid state storage, USB flash stick, memory card etc... In ke bare mein janne ke liye previous post ko visit kare. Iss post mein most important flash memory - solid state drive ke bare mein batayunga.
What is Solid State Drive ?
Solid state drive ko short mein SSD kaha jata hain. SSD ek storage device hain jo as a storage medium, flash ko use karte hain. Yeaha par flash medium hain aur SSD storage device hain.

Earliest SSD mein storage medium mein flash memory ko use nahi kara jata tha kyuki SSD's ke liye flash memory ka hona jaroori nahi hain. SSD's ke liye sirf drive ko solid state mein hona jaroori hain. But flash memory baki sabhe se better option tha iss liye SSD's mein flash ka use hona laga.

Solid State Drive (SSD) market mein sabse latest storage device hain. SSD non-volatile memory hote hain jis mein data, power OFF hone par bhi store rehta hain. SSD solid state mein hote hain jis mein koi bhi moving parts nahi hote hain. Yeah pure tarah flash memory par based hote hain. SSD kise bhi traditional device - HDD, DVD etc... ke compare mein extremely fast hote hain.

Types of SSD's Interfaces :-
SSD market mein bhot sare inerface mein available hain. But yeaha par Maine sabse jyada use hone wale interface ko mention kiya hain. Yeah easily market mein consumer level par available hote hain :-
  • SATA Interface
  • M.2 Interface
  • M.2 NVMe Interface

SATA :-
Most of the times iss interface ko SATA 3.0 bhi kaha jata hain. SATA ka full form 'Serial Advanced Technology Attachment' hain. Yeah sabhe interface mein SSD ka oldest interface hain aur SSD ke liye most of the users iss ko he use karte hain. Iss ke speed 6 Gbits/s ya 600 MBps hote hain. Users sabse jyada 2.5" SSD ko use karte hain, jo ke SATA 3.0 interface par based hote hain. SATA interface se similer he ek aur interface hota hai, jis ko PATA kaha jata hain. PATA ka pura name 'Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment' hain aur iss ke speed 133 MBps hote hain. SATA ke abhi tak 3 versions hain, jin ke speed mein time ka according bhot improvement aaya hain :-
SATA 1.0: Iss ke speed 150 Megabytes per second hote hain.
SATA 2.0: Iss ke speed 300 Megabytes per second hote hain.
SATA 3.0: Iss ke speed 600 Megabytes per second hote hain.

M.2 :-
M.2 interface ko Intel ne developed kiya tha. Iss ke physical size SATA ke compare mein small hote hain but iss ke speed fast hote hain. M.2 ki fastest reading speed 700 Megabytes per second aur writing speed 550 Megabytes per second tak ho sakte hain. Iss mein SATA lane ka use hota hain. Iss ke price SATA interface ke compare mein jyada hote hain.

M.2 NVMe :-
Yeah interface SATA aur M.2 ke compare mein expensive hote hain but yeah un dono se bhot jyada fast hote hain. Iss interface se RAM aur SSD ke bech fastest communication hota hain aur sath high bandwidth aur low latency milte hain. Yeah SSD's, nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) protocol (connection type) par based hote hain jo hame high input output per second (IOPS)  offer karte hain. Iss ke speed 4 Gbits/s tak ho sakte hain. Yeah SSD, PCI express lane ke madad se data transfer karte hain. Iss ko support karne ke liye BIOS mein NVMe ka support hona chaiyea aur sath he motherboard par Gen 3x4 port hona chaiyea.

Advantages of Solid State Drive :-
Portability: SSD, hard disk ki tarah bulky nahi hote aur light-weight hote hain. In mein koi bhi moving part nahi hota hain. Iss liye in he kahi bhi aasani se le jaya ja sakta hain.

Power Consumption: Yeah pure tarah se solid state mein hote hain iss liye iss ka power consumption bhot kam hota hain. Iss se battery performance bhot aachi hote hain.

Speed: SSD ke speed bhot he jyada hote hain. Iss mein operating system, system applications etc... bhot fast load ho jate hain.

Durability: SSD highly durable hote hain. For example agar koi laptop jis mein SSD installed hain, gir jata hain toh 99% chance hain ki SSD ko koi bhi damage nahi hoga.

Different Sizes: SSD ki size normal HDD ke equal hote hain jis se hard disk drive ko upgrade karna bhot aasan ho jata hain. Yeah 2.5", 1.8" aur 1.0" mein bhi available hote hain.

Gaming: Because of SSD ke speed bhot fast hote hain iss liye gaming ke liye sabse pehla suggestion SSD ko use karna ka hota hain.

Business: Bade - bade companies mein bhot jyada amount mein data analysis aur read/write hota hain iss. Iss liye latency ko kam karne ke liye SSD ka use hota hain.

Disadvantages of Solid State Drive :-
Highly Expensive: Storage device mein SSD sabse latest technology hain aur iss ke benefits ke karan yeah bhot expensive hote hain.

Low Capacity: SSD's mein bhot kam capacity available hote hain.
